In one of my previous blog posts I wrote about the odd numbers. In this blog post I will talk about the role and power of the even numbers. But before I say anything else, it is perhaps worth mentioning that no group is better than the other and each one has their strengths, merits and shadows. With the even numbers we are looking into a much more stable and grounded landscape, as opposed to the revolutionary and out-of-the-box nature of the odd numbers. Let’s explore that deeper.
Even Numbers: The Preservers
In a healthy society we need people who revolutionize and people who conserve and ensure the stability of what is. Even though revolution may sound like a sexier word, in the end of the day, without a ground, without a home and without stability, revolution is simply exhausting. The even numbers, namely: 2, 4, 6 and 8, are the ones who search for stability, consistency and order in life. They appreciate the blood, sweat and tears that had been put for ages into making society what it is. And therefore, they respect it, try to preserve it and also prefer to adhere to the societal trends. When you think of even numbers, you think of something that can be divided by half into equal whole sums. It gives off a feeling of symmetry and stability.
And indeed, even numbered people don’t look to shake things up, but rather to make sure things remain as stable as possible. That’s why they respect the law, abide by strict moral codes and are the ones to maintain the preciousness of what we have. When you think of age-old traditions that have been kept with utmost care for thousands of years, that’s also the energy of the even numbers.
The Need for Moral Codes
In order to be a revolutionary you must rebel to a degree against the law, against the moral codes of your time. That’s very often how something new is born. You must be able to challenge the status quo. But if your job is to preserve and protect the existing reality, then the opposite is true. You must have deep respect for the rules, the law and the ethical and moral codes that protect our society as it is and enable it to function with order. Even numbers are geared to be rule and law abiding and normally have strong moral codes guiding their life. Oftentimes, these codes aren’t “theirs” per-se, but simply moral codes of society. That’s why they stick to the norm more often than not. It’s harder for them to open up to a life-style that doesn’t go “by the book”.
They think much more in terms of contributing to society and making it even more stable. Belonging is also very important to them. That’s why building a home, belonging to a community and sometimes wanting to stay forever in the town they were born, is very common among them.
Even Numbers: Strengths and Shadows
What’s so impressive about even numbers is their natural sense of responsibility, service and obligation. They are very committed people and are therefore more reliable than the odd numbers. They feel responsible for their family, community, city and state. Patience is a very strong quality of theirs. It is natural for them to show respect to their parents, to the elderly and to respect hierarchy. They are our maintenance team. It is because of them that we have functioning roads, wifi and reliable buildings to live in. Odd numbers, in contrast, tend to be committed to their own path first and foremost. Even if that means not being there for their family, parents or friends, or perhaps being there in a very limited way. Even numbers on the other hand are very trustworthy and you can count on them being there for you even if it’s uncomfortable for them.
They don’t put their own path first, but rather the values of family, community and society. But all of this doesn’t come without a price. Their adherence to society’s demands and their commitment to family and community first, comes on the expense of their own path and sometimes even health. They will tend to suppress what’s good for them and what makes them happy, in order to fulfill the expectations of society. At times they will go as far as doing so even when they already feel mentally and physically ill. That’s because they give a lot of importance to self-image and position in society. As a result they feel guilty quite often. Why guilty? Because they always feel like they cannot let themselves enjoy the things they would want to. It’s a real blocker. And so they tend to suppress their joy and sense of freedom.
Another shadow side of the even numbers is being very conservative. I’ve already explain earlier how this could be a positive trait. But they can also be very dogmatic, old-fashioned and not open to open-minded perspectives. A very simple example to demonstrate this is to imagine that person who cannot perceive of any profession of being worthy unless it has a university degree behind it. Another example is a person not being able to comprehend of a woman not being married or having kids.
A Matter of Balance
In the end of the day odd and even numbers are complementary sides of one reality. We need both. It’s like Yin and Yang. We need people who think outside the box and we need those who preserve the existing box. When it comes to the life of the even numbers it’s important that they honor their structure but not fall into self-denial and excessive suppression. Once in a while to allow for a good adventure or a stepping out of the norm is healthy. In the same way that the odd numbers need to develop a healthy degree of respect to the norm and cultivate enough stability. It’s a fun experiment to look at your numerology chart from the perspective of odd and even numbers and analyze yourself through that lens.
