What a painful experience it is to always beat and judge ourselves. You know what I’m talking about. It’s that nasty thing you do to yourself every day. Telling yourself you’re not good enough, you should’ve done better. Whenever things go wrong you blame yourself and think you made a mistake. Yes my friend, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. I want to talk about self acceptance with you.
You’re Already Doing The Best You Can
The simple truth is: you are and have always done the best you can. Even in the worst moments of your life, you’ve done the best you can. Even when everything collapses within and around you, you are still doing the best you can. You see my friend, self acceptance is simply letting this truth sink into you. We suffer from a constant state of guilt and self blame, never able to truly relax, because we were taught to believe that we are never enough. But the truth is the exact opposite. In truth, you are always doing exactly the best you can do at any given moment. This means you can rest, you can relax. You can lay back and simply be. That is self acceptance.
But I Want all these Bad Emotions to Be Gone!
Yes I hear you…I know it feels horrible to feel desparate, depressed, anxious, in grief, heart-broken. It’s very hard. And yes, life is very very hard. I will not sugarcoat this truth. But I want you to understand something…it’s not gonna be easy to swallow, but it will liberate you. There is no way to not feel hard things. There is no trick, no meditation, no breathing technique or even far mountain that will save you from being shattered, heart-broken, devastated by life’s blows. So how is this truth liberating you ask? Because self acceptance tells us that we accept all of life as it is. Essentially self acceptance is already the natural state of life and of your being. Everything is allowed to be. And that is true love. You can’t get rid of the bad emotions. You can only open your heart to their existence. That’s liberation.
Self Acceptance is Radical
I’m telling you my brother, my sister, just allow yourself to fall, to die softly into this profound and radical self acceptance. You will start to discover that even when there are very difficult emotions and times, you can fall into that soft space within. A space that embraces it all, that doesn’t need explanations to why things are like this or like that. It’s a place that accepts confusion and despair as much as it accepts joy and happiness. It accepts our limitations and failures. It doesn’t have any boundaries or definitions as to what and how things should be. Self acceptance is wild and unlimited. Let that in my friend.
You truly are already doing the best you can – always.
This has always been the case.
Just let that in…gently…softly, let that love in.
Today, even if just for a moment, lay back and relax.
Let yourself rest.
